Introduction to Candle Making
Our introductory workshop provides a comprehensive overview of candle making fundamentals. Participants learn about different wax types, wick selection, fragrance blending, and pouring techniques through hands-on practice.
The session begins with an overview of materials and tools. Each participant receives a set of materials including wax, wicks, fragrance oils, and containers. The instructor demonstrates proper techniques for each step of the process.
Participants work at individual stations equipped with melting equipment, measuring tools, and pouring supplies. The small group size ensures that each person receives individual guidance and can ask questions throughout the session.
Workshop Structure
The workshop is divided into distinct phases, each focusing on a specific aspect of candle making. This structured approach allows participants to understand the relationship between materials, techniques, and final results.
During the first phase, participants learn to prepare wax for pouring. This includes understanding temperature requirements, measuring wax quantities, and preparing containers. The instructor explains how different wax types behave and how to achieve the desired consistency.
The second phase covers wick selection and placement. Participants learn to choose appropriate wick sizes based on candle diameter and wax type. Proper wick centering and securing techniques are demonstrated and practiced.
Fragrance blending is covered in the third phase. Participants work with fragrance oils and essential oils, learning about scent notes and how to create balanced combinations. Safety considerations for working with fragrances are emphasized.
The final phase focuses on pouring techniques. Participants pour their candles using the methods demonstrated, learning to avoid common issues such as air bubbles and uneven distribution. The instructor explains the importance of proper pouring temperature and technique.
What You'll Create
During the workshop, each participant creates two container candles. The first candle follows a standard recipe provided by the instructor, allowing participants to practice the basic techniques. The second candle allows for personalization in terms of fragrance selection and container choice.
All materials and tools are provided. Participants take home the candles they create, along with care instructions and information about sourcing materials for future projects.
